We Believe

FAQs

Meet the Staff

Orchard Central

WE BELIEVE there is one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the Creator of all that is, unlimited in His power, holiness and love. Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19

WE BELIEVE all humanity, though created in the image of God and of infinite worth to Him, is so affected by sin that every part of one's life is marred by it, and therefore no person can by himself or herself be saved from God's punishment for sin, which is hell. Genesis 1:27; Romans 7:5; Romans 3:23

WE BELIEVE Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, whose substitutionary death on the cross was for the sins of humanity and makes possible the offer of forgiveness and salvation to all who believe in Him, seek His forgiveness, and live under His Lordship. Romans 8:1-4; Romans 8:32-34

WE BELIEVE the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and that it teaches us without error what we should believe and how we should live. II Timothy 3:16-17

WE BELIEVE the Church everywhere in the world is the Body of Christ, commissioned to bring the love and salvation of God to the world. Acts 1:8; II Corinthians 5:18-20

WE BELIEVE Jesus Christ is coming again to earth to judge the world, destroy the works of Satan, and take Christ's followers to heaven, their eternal home. I Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:10; John 14:3

What do we believe?  We believe the Biblical truths included in the historic Apostles Creed.

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell The third day he rose again from the dead He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead I believe in the Holy Ghost I believe in the holy Christian church: the communion of saints The forgiveness of sins The resurrection of the body And the life everlasting. Amen.

Sunday 9:15 & 10:45 amOur Cedar Falls Campus is unique in that we have concurrent services at both ends of the building each Sunday. Join us in either the Community Center (Door E or D) or Sanctuary (Door G). (Sign language interpretation at 10:45 am in the Community Center)

What to Expect

We are Casual! Feel free to wear what you are comfortable in. Jeans and t-shirts are just as acceptable as a suit or a dress. Wear what you want; we are interested in welcoming you as you are!

We'll help you park! Parking lot attendants will assist you in finding a parking space as well as helping the traffic flow. Don't be intimidated by them, rather let them guide you through the process. Remember we also have door-side drop-off areas if you need them.

We will greet you! The first face you see will be a welcoming one. We have a team of people at each door who will extend the Orchard welcome the moment you arrive.

We want to answer your questions! Whether you are visiting for the first time or you've been here a few times, we know you'll have questions. Visit us before or after the service at the Welcome Center, located at both ends of our building, and connect with our Face to Face team.

We enjoy coffee! We have Coffee Houses at both ends of the building with hot beverages ready for your enjoyment. While we do accept donations, feel free to enjoy a cup on us when visiting for the first time. Remember, it is perfectly acceptable to take it into the worship centers with you during the service, so don't rush, rather enjoy!

We love kids! We have created a safe environment for your kids. On Sunday mornings, we offer nurseries for infants through age two and programming for children age three through sixth grade. We utilize a check-in system to keep your children safe and your information secure. Entrance "E" on the southeast end of the building is the most convenient entrance. At check-in, both children and parents receive security tags with matching numbers. If we need to contact you during the service, your child's security number will show up on the upper right corner of the worship center screen. When the service is over, you can return to your child's classroom and pick them up. If you would prefer your child(ren) to sit with you during the worship service, that's great! All are welcome in the worship services and your kids are no exception!

We are passionate about worship! During the service, expect live music and relevant teaching with real-life applications and illustrations. Our goal is to provide you with resources to encourage your spiritual journey.

Not sure which door to enter? Here's what you need to know:

You'll find our Children's Ministry check-in area inside this door. This is also a great door to enter for quick access to the Welcome Center, Coffee House and Community Center.

This door is located right between the Coffee House and the Community Center. There is also a door-side drop off location here if needed.

If you are joining us for a worship service in the Sanctuary, this is the door you will want to enter. Coffee and Welcome Center are also readily available in the Commons, right outside the Sanctuary.

In order to make our building easy to navigate, we have purposely posted location signs throughout the entire building. You are welcome to come and familiarize yourself with our surroundings. Our goal is for you to be comfortable when you are here.

Orchard Central

Helping next generations encounter and follow Jesus to bless a broken world.

Orchard Hill Church uses a team of teachers in its Sunday morning services: Alice Shirey, Doug Tensen, Kurt Vander Wiel, Jeff Mickey, Ed Baker, Dave Bartlett, Juli Camarin, Brian Steenhoek, Karla Chestnut and Jesse Henkle. These teachers include staff and one volunteer teacher. On occasion, others outside our core teaching team will teach. It is our belief that multiple gifted voices from different family situations, ages, genders and experiences provide our congregation with healthy and strong teaching from God's Word.

Orchard Hill does not use a senior pastor model of leadership. At one point in our history, Ed Baker was our senior pastor. As we moved toward being a gift-based church, we discovered that the Body of Christ is to be organized around God-given spiritual gifts and passions. We have transitioned to a form of leadership which acknowledges and celebrates the gifts and passions of our leaders. Ed then moved into a position which better utilizes his spiritual gifts. Currently, Doug Tensen, Brian Steenhoek, and Jeff Mickey are the Senior Leaders of Orchard Hill. We continue to identify and celebrate the gifts and passions of our congregation and staff.

Orchard Hill is led by a team consisting of two groups of servant leaders. Our Leadership Board is a group of mature men and women, affirmed by the congregation of Orchard Hill Church, who provide the legal and fiduciary leadership to our congregation. These servants of Christ speak with one voice as they give guidance to the ministries of our church. Our Senior Leadership Team is a group of three mature followers of Christ who provide operational leadership and day-to-day implementation of ministry to the mission of Orchard Hill Church. Brian Steenhoek, Doug Tensen, and Jeff Mickey serve as our Senior Leaders who give leadership and vision to our Leadership Board, staff, and congregation.

During the school year, Orchard Hill Church has seven Sunday morning services on three different campuses meeting at four different locations. Four services are held each Sunday morning at our Cedar Falls campus in both the Community Center and the Sanctuary; two services are held each Sunday at our Grundy Center campus, and one service meets at the WSR Middle School in Waverly. Orchard has joined with a growing group of churches who are finding that God has called us to reach the mission He has given to us by meeting on three campuses, 44 miles apart. We are truly one church on three campuses. We share teachers, leaders, musicians, mission and budget.

We take the prayer of Jesus in John 17 very seriously. We believe that we are called by God to help be an answer to this prayer for unity within the body of Jesus. We also believe God sometimes works best through the partnership of different churches and organizations. We believe that God desires for us to recognize that all Christians in the Cedar Valley are spiritually one Church. We are called to place allegiance to Jesus far above any allegiance to a local church.

Orchard Central (both available online and by our Welcome Centers) is the spot for those who call Orchard Hill their home to register for events and other opportunities. Please visit orchardcentral.info.

OHC offers a Membership Class four times a year. This class is an opportunity to learn about Orchard Hill Church in a classroom setting where you can ask questions. There is no pressure to join following this class, but it will give you an idea of Orchard's mission and decide if our church is a good fit for you. Click here to find the next Membership Class dates.

Baptism is an important step in one's journey of faith. As one of the sacraments, baptism is a physical sign of a spiritual truth. At Orchard, we want to encourage you in this wonderful life event so there are many options when it comes to baptism. Infant baptism: If you would like to have your child baptized at Orchard Hill, make plans to join us for our next parent baptism class. Please click here to find upcoming baptism dates and classes. Private Infant baptisms or dedicaton: available for those who prefer an intimate and private celebration with their family. We still ask that you go through our parent baptism class. Please click here to find upcoming baptism dates and classes. Adult Baptism: If you wish to be baptized at Orchard Hill, we first want to meet with you to hear about how you came to faith in Jesus and why you wish to be baptized. Then we will schedule a time to baptize you or you can be baptized at our yearly Celebration of Baptism in August. Please click here to find upcoming baptism dates and classes. To quickly find baptism dates, sort by baptim filter on event calendar.

Orchard Hill has six vision statements that will lead us into the future. These include: SPIRITUAL GROWTH Every individual attending OHC will continually and consistently grow spiritually to become more like Jesus CONNECTION OHC inspires a spiritual environment in which our people feel connected to one another and to God OUTREACH OHC attendees are convinced of Jesus' commandment to go into all the world and witness the gospel by helping people come on the arm of a trusted friend THE NEXT GENERATION OHC successfully reaches each next generation for Christ LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OHC provides development for leaders who will impact the Church for years to come MINISTRY RESOURCES & TOOLS OHC provides for staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers the resources and tools needed for ministry.

Daily Scriptures

Engaging in the Bible is one of Orchard Hill’s strategic ways of accomplishing our mission: To help next generations encounter and follow Jesus to bless a broken world. One of the primary ways we reflect regularly on God’s Word is through Daily Scriptures.

Since 2010, the Daily Scriptures arrive via email to the computers and phones to subscribers every day, reaching even more people through Orchard Central. Each daily entry contains a short passage from the Bible accompanied by questions and observations that encourage readers to reflect on what’s being said – and to respond through their actions and thoughts. Daily Scriptures are published on Orchard Central, our spot for those who call Orchard Hill home to connect and take one more step. We invite you to visit our Daily Scriptures Archives
