Celebrating 133 years of Lincoln Center

CelebratingLC

Today, many will gather at Lincoln Center to celebrate the life and ministries of the church. Their story began in 1884 when German immigrants settled the area and started the church.

In the early 1900s, several members wanted to reach their neighbors, so they stepped out in faith to start an English service. This was controversial at the time because many felt to be a true worship service, it must be in German.

“Lincoln Center’s heart for reaching next generations has been a common thread woven throughout their story,” said Brad Hillebrand, Grundy County staff. In addition, in 2000s this congregation reached out to Orchard Hill’s leadership for help in continuing services. After a couple years of praying, Lincoln Center became part of Orchard Hill in 2011.

“Lincoln Center had a pattern of doing unconventional things to reach people for Jesus,” continued Hillebrand. “Sometimes very hard and always coming with a sacrifice, but throughout their story, they’ve always had a way reaching their neighbors for Christ.”

In August, Sunday morning worship was moved to the new Orchard facility in Grundy Center. “This afternoon, at the Lincoln Center location, we will gather, share stories, remember the past while looking forward to the future,” said Dave Bartlett. “Everyone is welcome to come.”

“We hope people leave feeling encouraged and inspired. We want to honor the people who called Lincoln Center their home, and the long legacy of the Church,” said Hillebrand.

Everyone is invited to come this afternoon at 2:00pm at Lincoln Center for a powerful worship service combining scripture, hymns and stories.
