Wednesday, October 18: Went off to a solitary place, where he prayed

Pulled ApartWe are distracted people, with access to more technology, entertainment, and information than anyone before us. While much of that technology is so good, there's a dark side, and God’s word has a lot to say about living distracted, fragmented, pulled-apart lives. Join us as we explore hope and motivation to become people who focus on what really matters.

Read Mark 1:35-39

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!"

Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come." So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

Jesus surely was in constant contact and communication with his heavenly Father throughout each day. Yet here we see that from the beginning of his ministry, Jesus gets up early—while it's still dark—and goes off by himself for some serious praying. What do you think motivated Jesus to do this? Where might those same motivations be present in your own life?

Constant awareness of God throughout our day is great. But like Jesus, we need scheduled, regular times devoted to growing in our relationship with the Lord. Is that something you're doing now or could begin, perhaps even using these Daily Scriptures as a part of that time? Are you willing to start to make that happen?
