Wednesday, January 10: For everyone who asks receives
We return to our occasional reading from beginning to end through the Gospel of Matthew, which emphasizes Jesus' divine nature and his status as the Messiah—as the Son of David, the Son of Man, and the Son of God.
Read Matthew 7:7-8
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."
Jesus provides a three-step process for dealing with worry and stress. Ask: Come to the Lord with a conscious awareness of your real needs. Seek: Couple your prayer with active pursuit of God's will and plan for your life. Knock: Persistently remind yourself of God's perfect timing and provision.
If it's hard for you to believe Jesus' promises in this passage, think back on his past faithful provision for you. Cultivate an attitude of gratefulness by focusing on what you have, not just what you want. But don't be afraid to keep on asking and seeking and knocking.
