Friday, April 13: The kingdom of heaven is like yeast
We return to our occasional reading from beginning to end through the Gospel of Matthew, which emphasizes Jesus' divine nature and his status as the Messiah—as the Son of David, the Son of Man, and the Son of God.
Read Matthew 13:33-35
He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough."
Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:
"I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world."
The next brief comparison of the kingdom of heaven is to yeast, of which even a small amount, though unseen, can permeate a large batch of dough. Likewise God's people, in subtle and inconspicuous ways, can and should have a huge influence on those around them.
Today look for ways you can influence others in Jesus' name.
