Wednesday, August 8: Wisdom from Proverbs
Proverbs is a practical book filled with "sound bites" of God's wisdom. As we read, we need to remember that a proverb isn't a promise that God will always respond to our behavior in a certain way, but a memorable phrase that points to truth beyond itself. Proverbs are God's guidelines for wise living, not his guarantees for prosperity or blessing.
Read Proverbs 15:22
Plans fail for lack of counsel,
but with many advisers they succeed.
Part of the "American dream" often seems to include individualism, where people are expected to independently pursue their own achievement and fulfillment. This proverb, though, encourages us to seek the counsel of advisers we trust, placing our own lives in the context of others, in order to succeed.
Contemplate today how your life affects those around you, how the decisions you make influence the choices and circumstances of those you live with, work with, fellowship with. Seek out their counsel when you're considering important decisions.
